The Host City

Valencia sits on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, where centuries-old architecture meets contemporary design. The city’s medieval quarter unfolds alongside the avant-garde City of Arts and Sciences, while a thriving creative community has established Valencia as a significant center for contemporary art.

Valencia’s artistic legacy includes figures like Joaquín Sorolla, one of Spain’s great Impressionist painters, and a rich tradition of decorative arts—from its role in the historic silk trade to the distinctive Valencian Art Nouveau architecture that still defines parts of the city.

Valencia has built substantial cultural infrastructure in recent decades, hosting internationally recognized contemporary exhibitions while maintaining an accessible, unpretentious character.
