Published in the International Art Magazine ‘Art & Antiques’ Summer Edition p. xx. Artists can be compared to bees, American philosopher Buckminster Fuller has pointed out. A bee gathers nectar to make honey; yet what it’s really doing, one might say, is pollinating flowers. So artists often find that their actions have unexpected consequences. John Dahlsen is a contemporary Australian artist whose wide-ranging interests lead him in many directions—from abstract painting to digital photography to sculptures in public squares. In his leisure time, Dahlsen enjoys strolling along the splendid sandy beaches near his home in Byron Bay. Unfortunately, even the virgin coasts of Australia are besmirched by picnic litter and soda cans washed up by the tide and on occasion, Dahlsen will pick these items up, as many of us would. One day about a decade ago it struck him just how much brightly colored junk was lying about in plain sight. The shore and dunes were sparkling with pieces of red, blue, black, white and clear plastic. In a gesture that initially seemed futile, Dahlsen started filling sacks with refuse and bringing them home to sort. Most of the bottle tops, children’s combs, bubble pipes, hair clips and innumerable other broken and sundry bits of plastic turned out to be dyed in the same few colors. Soon his rubbish bins w e r e o v e r – flowing with colorful assemblages of objects that were indistinguishable except for their shapes. Unified in this way, the beach debris seemed less ugly.

Timeless Drawing 25 meter

St Gertrud Church and Culture Cologne, Germany, 2019

Irena Paskali, Macedonia

Drawings with medieval-modern (pre-18th century) wood charcoal.
These landscapes have been drawn with wood charcoal and this wood charcoal is over hundred, even thousand, years old. And that is something special for the artist. She says she has great respect for it. She is fascinated by the immense time span concentrated in this material. She asks herself where this wood charcoal comes from. From wood, but what kind of wood, maybe it was furniture once or burned bone rests. When drawing she holds a piece of past times in her hands and creates something new with this little piece of charcoal. She is the nexus, the catalyst between the past and the present as if she could convey something from past times to the present by drawing on a sheet of paper. She likes the natural shade of color and does not want to mix it with other colors. For her, this wood charcoal speaks its own language. The drawing is clear, pure, distinct and elegant when the wood charcoal stands for itself. Irena Paskali loves the hardness of this material that is also soft at the same time and yet can appear strong and powerful in a drawing. The artist presents sleek perfection in the division, in the composition, in the display of feelings. Her sense for rhythm and proper balance between black and white tones is striking.

Irena Paskali “2202 m”, 2 min 38 sec.,
Finally free
– Escape from civilization – freed from all constraints. The mountain world, which is so hostile to life in the first place, immediately conveys a feeling of security and immediately becomes a place of longing for the beholder. The floating ceiling gives the place something mystical, there the little church, spirituality awakens – the so unapproachable place becomes the source of deeper knowledge for those who reach it. Shoes that no one owns, footprints in the snow – departure to another life. Part of the Project By the Way 365 Macedonia

Irena Paskali, Macedonia

Every grain buried in the ground brings new life Earth is the plane on which we live and die, on which we find hope. The grain is fertilized, grows and dies like man.

Doesjka Jasper has lived a large part of her life in Portugal. This amazingly colorful country has certainly contributed to her urge to create. Doesjka Jasper is a self-taught artist. Since she was a child, she was always busy to “create something”. Anything that came her way could be an ingredient to model something. Whether on the beach with sea sand, candle wax, papier-mâché, misted windows, or clay. Everything could be brought into one form. She often had horses and bulls as her theme. Later she began trying clay and wax, and this was cast in bronze. And of course the content changed over time. The subject was now the encounter with love, movement and dance. Lovers who melt into each other. Their figures merge into each other in a floating state. She expresses the state of love, as detached from space and time. Her works have been shown in the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Canada and Portugal.

The early painting of Alexia Papadopoulos use the aesthetics of the fifties. The colors in the movies and the advertisements have a special optic. Through the titles like „You are going to recognize me with the red hat“, or „When does he call back?“, stories are told, but just the introduction. The observer can imagine the continuation. The image of woman complete changes in the eighties/nineties, as it is shown in the following paintings „Girl 1“ and „Girl 2“.

Flash For Empathy

The “flash for empathy” is a series of large-format works. Each work suggests a portrait but with three bars blocking a view like a blindfold. The series provides a wide margin of interpretation in terms of one’s media use and position in society. It raises questions and invites reflection. The artist brings to canvas her subjective impressions of our rapidly changing coexistence. She explores the characteristics that determine our personal and social identity such as sustainability, joy, empathy, reflection, enthusiasm, inner peace and happiness. The intense and radiant colour combinations speak of the artist’s heart-warming faith that every individual is different and perfect in their special way. Every work in the series is unique like a person. Her intention is to inspire the viewers to reflect upon themselves, to rediscover their true purpose and trust themselves more. Her work is also a call to take another look, to raise the gaze, tune in to a person in front of you and establish a meaningful dialogue. To extend this positive message of confidence and sustainability, each work is encased in a sturdy shadow gap steel frame. It’s complete.
